Thanksgiving & More
Thanksgiving ranks as the “favorite” holiday for both Heather and I annually. If you don’t already know, we love a meal, and we love to gather. There is something special (or crazy) that happens when we invite those that we love into the home for deeper conversations, a show of gratitude, and a cup of grace. Luckily in the South, we also surround the day with casseroles, butter, and gravy! This year was especially sweet for our family…
Both sides of our families live in Asheville, and we are lucky enough to comfortably come together during the holidays to celebrate over a meal. A tradition has developed with us to begin Thanksgiving Day with the annual Turkey Trot 5k in downtown Asheville. We then race home to catch the end of the Macy’s Day Parade and snack on sausage balls (and maybe a mimosa) before we head out the door for the big occasion.
Thanksgiving was a special time for us to reminisce on the year as a family. We enjoyed a wonderful meal, some laughs, an intense game of “nickels”, and a little foosball.
Thanksgiving evening was an unexpected treat. Our sister-in-law, Gigi, is from Argentina. Her family immigrated to the states when she was young. As we celebrated our first Thanksgiving meal with her parents and sister’s family, we got to hear stories of how her parents were determined to change their girls’ futures and future opportunities. It was remarkable story after remarkable story of grit and determination.
As Heather and I navigate the challenges of operating two shops and a hectic family, the Lapido family put it into perspective for us. I left that evening excited to tackle all of the challenges life brings an entrepreneurial family! I was excited to continue paving new opportunities for our children and embarking on this growing business venture with my partner. Cheers to all of you on this Thanksgiving Holiday.
By the way, don’t forget to stop by and say hello at one of the shops if you get the chance. It’s likely that Heather or I will be there during the holiday season and we always love a big smile!
