Why Asheville?

As is typical, I chatted up a customer from Florida yesterday as they meandered through our West Asheville store. We exchanged pleasantries and then in a matter-of-fact moment he turned and said, “Why Asheville”? I took a deep breath, hopped on my soap box, and leaned in.

I asked him if he had enjoyed the weather on his trip. He said it was amazing. I talked about enjoying the seasonal changes and truly experiencing all four seasons in a picturesque landscape that feels like you’re in a painting.

I asked him if he had eaten any good food and drink on his trip. He said, “Some of the best.” Our restaurants, bars, breweries, and specialty shops are second to none. We have an entrepreneurial spirit within the region that permeates throughout our food, drink, retail, arts, and crafts.

I asked if he had gone to the Biltmore House. He said it was breathtaking. I have always heard that Asheville became a destination place for visitors when the Railroad came in the late 1800’s. As the Biltmore House was being built, I can only imagine the beauty of the land surrounding waiting for exploration. Our forests and natural landscape bring some of the most perfectly pristine water to us all. It is a treasure that is forgotton among many.

I asked if he had walked through the River Arts District. He said he was headed that way after our shop. He was headed to Wedge Studios to see some of our local artists’ at work. I told him he would be in for a treat.

I hopped off my soap box and asked him back, “Why Asheville”? He chuckled and said, “There aren’t many other places that offer so much for your five senses”… Well said! I couldn’t agree more!

Something about Asheville just feels really special!
If you get a chance, stop by the shop sometime and say hey!
