Provisions Mercantile has your picnic handled

After two years operating out of a Haywood Road storefront, Provisions Mercantile is expanding.

Owner Heather Wright and her husband will open their second location in Biltmore Village July 10. This newest spot will have more of an emphasis on specialty and fresh foods, with charcuterie and cheese boxes plus wine and beer to sip at a bar or have packaged for takeout.

Customers can fill a basket with provisions and head out on a hike or head to the Biltmore Estate with a full or split bottle of wine. "And we'll have beers on tap and in the store for those who prefer to sit at the window and have a cold beverage," said Wright.

An expanded pantry section will include a build-your own trail mix bar, composed charcuterie boxes from Asheville Charcuterie Company, jams from Imladris and Biscuit Head, a variety of local dairy and vegan cheeses, crackers and more.

Wright, who grew up in Asheville, said the expanded inventory of fresh food and local provisions seemed a natural progression for her store.
